This book illustrates the calculation of ow of water in pipes and conduits of various kinds, as computed by the Hazen and Williams formula and the flow of water over weirs, and the quantity discharged as determined by Bazins formula and experimental investigations upon large models by the author. The tables not only show the ow in small brass pipes, wrought iron pipes, hose and pipes from 4 inches to 144 inches in diameter, but also give the ow in aqueducts, relative discharging capacities of aqueducts, sewers, tile sewers, circular brick sewers, and the decrease in the carrying capacity of cast iron pipe with age, how computed. The author has made an extensive study of the subject, and the results are presented in a convenient form. The formulas used are among the most satisfactory yet devised. This book has been used by the author for some time, and it is hoped that the tables will be useful to those not accustomed to the use of the slide-rule, and also to those who use the slide-rule, as a reference showing velocities and velocity heads, and establishing beyond question the position of the decimal point, which is the most troublesome feature in the use of the slide-rule to beginners.
