Akenside, a physician and poet, sought to describe natural phenomena through scientific means and is best known for his reflective work, The Pleasures of Imagination. Dyer, a painter and poet, explored historical and natural themes and is renowned for his descriptive poem, Grongar Hill. Within this book are over 80 poems from these two men, including odes, hymns, and elegies. Their poems cover love, loss, friendship, nature, and the arts, and several also hint at contemporary debates and political issues.
