This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

This book is a captivating exploration of the author's personal relationship with books, a lifelong passion that began with the insatiable hunger for stories and knowledge. The author recounts his experiences in the world of literature, not as a scholar or critic, but as a reader deeply engaged with the emotional and transformative power of the written word. He examines the role of books in shaping his identity and perspective, reflecting on the diverse array of influences that have shaped his literary tastes and shaped his life. The author delves into the unique impact of reading in childhood, contrasting it with the more deliberate and conscious engagement with books that comes with maturity. The book explores the phenomenon of "living books," individuals who have left an indelible mark on the author's life and served as sources of inspiration and intellectual stimulation. The author also explores the profound impact of the books that he has never read, examining the reasons why certain books remain out of reach and how this avoidance can be just as impactful as the books one chooses to consume. Through a series of anecdotes and reflections, the author invites the reader to consider the role of books in their own lives, offering a fresh perspective on the value of reading and the interconnectedness of experience. This book is an insightful journey into the heart of a reader's life, a testament to the enduring power of books to inspire, enlighten, and shape our understanding of the world.
