The following Notes of Lectures delivered in theS ummer of 1835, for I wish them to be viewed but as notes, present the outline of an investigation in which I have been for some time engaged. There are many subjects pointed out in it, requiring renewed aatomicali exprrimentalj clC- nicali and historical research ;and to these I propose to devote my future studies. How interesting and valuable would a series of cases be, taktn in the rigi 1spirit of truth, and with a continual reference to the divisions of the nervous system, which I have proposed !L ike the scientific traveller I have sketched my rout, to which I shall adhere, or from which I shall deviate, according as new views may present themselves, and direct my further progress. I may truly say, None scribo hoc lemere: quominus familiaris sum, hoc sum ad investigandum curiosior Cic. Ep. ad Fam.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book represents the author's substantial research into the then-nascent field of nervous system pathology. It introduces the concept of the nervous system comprising three distinct subdivisions: the cerebral (voluntary), the true spinal (excitomotory), and the ganglionic (nutrient). Their functions, pathologies, and interrelationship are examined in detail. The author posits that a whole series of illnesses considered at the time to be cerebral in origin, such as epilepsy, tetanus and stuttering, are, in fact, diseases of the excito-motory system. He terms the former "centric" and the latter "eccentric," and the distinction is important, for while the former is largely incurable, the latter can generally be treated. This book marked a significant advancement in the understanding of the relationship between the nervous system and a range of previously poorly understood diseases. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781334521133_0
