Alternating -C urrent Transformer. It frequently happens that whilst practical students are in possession of clear ideas on the fundamental phenomena exhibited in the application and generation of continuous or steady electric currents, the endeavour to cope with similar problems concerning periodic currents finds them in want of some special assistance to enable them to deal with the peculiar difficulties which surround such study. Particularly is this the case now that periodic or alternating currents are largely employed in electric illumination, and the necessity arises for all students of electro-technics to be prepared to deal with and appreciate the particular questions which thus arise. The practical employment of periodic currents and their inductive transformation is becoming so important that it seemed probable service would be rendered to those dealing with these matters by placing together the main outlines of the theory and of the applications of electriccurrent induction. The work here presented is an attempt, no doubt very imperfect, to realise this aim.
