My concern with the Tragedy will be found sufficiently explained in the Introduction and in the narrative itself. My personal recollections I have tested and supported by reference to public documents ;but I am especially indebted to the suggestions and manuscript reminiscences of my dear friend, the Kev. D. J. East, for more than forty years a resident in the I sland, and President of Calabar College, Kingston.
