This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. "The Spanish Pioneers" is the work of Charles F. Lummis, a Puritan on both sides of his house for several generations, and an American to the core. Lummis enrolled in Harvard for college and was a classmate of Theodore Roosevelt, but dropped out during his senior year. Many will be surprised to read the following excerpt from this great work: "The whole policy of Spain toward the Indians of the New World was one of humanity, justice, education, and moral suasion; and though there were of course individual Spaniards who broke the strict laws of their country as to the treatment of the Indians, they were duly punished therefor." Faithful to the original 1893 edition, this is a great read for history buffs and lovers of exploration and daring. Have a "Look Inside".
