Nay, thp it hath, among other Languages, been tranllated into Dutch yand celebrated with great A pplaufe at A mfterdam (where Burlefque never came) by the Title of Mynh MrV nnder Thumbs the Burgomafters receiving it with that reverent and filerit A ttention, which becometh an Audience at a deep Tragedy :N otwithftanding all this, there have not been wanting fqme who have reprefented thefe Scenes in a ludicrous Light; and Mr. Qhath been heard to fay, with fome Concern, That he wondered a Tragical and Chriftian Nation would permit a Reprefentation on its Theatre, fo vifibly defigned to ridicule and extirpate every thing that is Great and Solemn among us. This learned Critick, and his Followers, were led into fo great an Error, by that fnrreptitious and piratical Copy which ftok laft Year into the World; with what I njuftice and Prejudice to our A uthor, I hope will be acknowledged by every one who fliall happily perufe this genuine and original Copy.
