Renzo Rosso has been Professor of Water Engineering atthe Politecnico di Milano since 1986. He received a degree inhydraulic engineering from the University of Genoa in 1975 and hasconducted research and taught at the National Research Council ofItaly, the Universities of Genoa and Florence, the University ofForeigners of Perugia and Colorado State University. He is theauthor of several books and over one hundred refereed papers. Hisprofessional experience includes projects on mitigation ofhydrological hazards and water system analysis, planning and designin Europe, Africa and South America.
This book, written by engineers for engineers, tackles the subject in a clear, up–to–date manner using aprocess–orientated approach. It introduces the subjects ofmathematical statistics and probability theory, and then addressesmodel estimation and testing, regression and multivariate methods, analysis of extreme events, simulation techniques, risk andreliability, and economic decision making.
325 examples and case studies from European and Americanpractice are included and each chapter features realistic problemsto be solved.
For the second edition new sections have been added on MonteCarlo Markov chain modeling with details of practical Gibbssampling, sensitivity analysis and aleatory and epistemicuncertainties, and copulas. Throughout, the text has been revisedand modernized.
