I was born in 1928 on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in Thurston County in northeastern Nebraska. Living there probably accounts for my life long love of wolves and of soil and forest conservation. My childhood was a very pleasant one. My parents never argued or criticized others. That positive influence has helped my wife Deloris and me to be happily married for forty-seven years and we don't criticize others either! I've enjoyed every segment of my life: my six years working in the Trappist monastery, my two years in the US Army, my fifteen years of teaching, my thirteen years of selling insurance, my ten years of raising a flock of seventy sheep guarded by two wonderful Great Pyrenees Guard dogs on the farm near Brookings, S.D. that my father left me and my five years of writing my "Ramblings from Ryan's Roost" for the local paper in S.D. and now my peaceful years in retirement in Illinois where I can write and be near my daughters Michele and Mimi and their husbands and talented children. God has been terribly good to me and my loved ones. He has watched over us and kept us from harm. I've driven over a million miles without an accident. My book describes how lucky my life has been. Despite all my dangerous adventures and close calls no harm has ever befallen me. He protects all who love Him and try to do His will. And your life may be proof of that, too. I hope it is.
