Synopsis

Elephant And Seladang Hunting In The Federated Malay States is a book written by Theodore Rathbone Hubback and originally published in 1905. The book is a detailed account of the author's experiences hunting elephants and seladangs (a type of wild ox) in the Federated Malay States, which were a group of British colonies in Southeast Asia at the time. The book begins with a description of the author's arrival in the Malay States and his preparations for the hunt, including the acquisition of hunting gear and the hiring of local guides and trackers. The author then goes on to describe his various hunting expeditions, detailing the challenges and dangers of hunting such large and powerful animals in the dense jungle terrain. Throughout the book, the author provides vivid descriptions of the animals he encounters, as well as the landscapes and people of the Malay States. He also includes photographs and illustrations to accompany his writing. In addition to its value as a hunting memoir, Elephant And Seladang Hunting In The Federated Malay States provides a glimpse into the colonial era of Southeast Asia and the attitudes and values of Western hunters at the time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Présentation de l'éditeur

The Malay Peninsula is a portion of Asia little known to the general pijblic, although it is the greatest tin-producing country in the world. Except to the resident Europeans in theS traits Settlements andF ederated Malay States and a very few others, it is entirely unknown as a big game hunters country. As such I do not wish to describe it, since it is not a country which a stranger can enter and go on an organised hunting trip. In fact, it is extremely difficult for those not conversant with theM alay tongue to obtain any hunting at all ;although for those who live in the country and can occasionally leave their regular duties for a few days recreation, there is within reasonable reach big-game hunting which for genuine sport will hold its own with any in the world.
