Kes lives in Witham, Essex, with his wife, young family and assortment of animals. He is a born storyteller. Voted by The Independent as one of the TOP TEN children's authors only a year after publishing his first book. Kes has been listed as one of the top ten children's authors in the UK. In 2001 he beat J.K. Rowling to become the overall winner of the prestigious Red House Children's Book Award. He has since become a three times category winner and is the only author in the history of the award to win prizes for both picture book and fiction story writing.

Mary McQuillan was shortlisted for the Sheffield Book Award for her first picture book Who's Poorly, Too. She is a highly successful illustrator with a knack for character and humour.
