Présentation de l'éditeur :
Handbook for Chinese Archaic Jade is the culmination of rational evaluation and sentimental appreciation of Chinese archaic jade. Through the intricate mingling of reasons and feelings, the author - Professor Agnes Chan Sui-yin - expresses her deep affection towards Chinese archaic jade in an incisive yet intimate way. Having collected and appreciated Chinese archaic jade for over a decade, and being well-read on the subject with a rich fund of knowledge in Chinese culture and history, Professor Chan has developed six systematic principles for evaluating Chinese archaic jade. While guiding the reader through the process of evaluating jade pieces, Prof Chan also invites the reader to appreciate the natural and man-made characteristics crafted onto the pieces, and further onto a journey of experiencing the lives and the culture of the Chinese people dating as far back as the Han dynasty and the Neolithic Period. The reader will not only be awed by the perseverance and the magnificent craftsmanship of the artisans, but also feel the intimate relationship between man and nature. For Chinese archaic jade enthusiasts, this book may open up a novel way of looking at Chinese archaic jade. Indeed, this book is itself like a precious piece that is well worth keeping.
