Then I started connecting the missing pieces in this Dread family mystery with all those clues that could only lead to one remaining question: just where did my great-grandfather hide the gold? I now have a good idea where it might have been hidden: in the very church the Dread family had built back in 1906. The Mel P. Dread mystery series describes the adventures of two seventh-grade kids brought together during their summer vacation in a small town in rural Nebraska. The author, John P. Kaufman, grew up on a rural dairy farm in Michigan. He was one of seven brothers and sisters. He has worked as a classroom teacher and educator. He studied history and art at Eastern Michigan University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in art education. After working on his master's at Michigan State University, in 1980 he moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he will tell you he loves the dry heat of the desert. His favorite things are writing, painting, art, travel, and keeping fit, and he is always happy to be active while working on a multitude of his inventive ideas and other creative projects. Currently the author is working on his second Mel Porter Dread mystery. The book entitled, You're Not Dead until Someone Finds Your Corpse, starts out in a movie theater where we can hear the sounds of blood curdling screams! This time Mel and his best friend Bonnie Starr find themselves entangled knee deep in a canine crime scene involving dogs, diamonds, and the Russian mafia.
