"The soul-consuming and friction-wearing tendency of this hurrying, grasping, competing age is the excuse for this booklet. “
In Cheerfulness as a Life Power you will learn just how valuable happiness is. Happy people live longer, they get promoted more often, and they make more money. This book will show you how to be happier in your life, and more importantly how to use that happiness to be more successful. First comes the happiness and then the success, not the other way around as we so often think. The soul-consuming and friction-wearing tendency of this hurrying, grasping, competing age is the excuse for this little book. Cheerfulness has a wonderful lubricating power. What is needed is a habit of cheerfulness, to enjoy every day as we go along; not to fret and stew all the week, and then expect to make up for it Sunday or on some holiday. This book leads the reader to look on the sunny side of things, and to take a little time every day to speak pleasant words.
“‘Character and ’Cheerfulness’ illustrate the best qualities of Dr. Marden’s work, and are both character-moulders of the first quality.” -Rev. Francis E. Clarke
“Orison Swett Marden’s inspirational and efficiency books are famous the world over, and are praised by men and women in every station of life, from toiling clerks to rulers of great nations. The reason is that each reader finds in them much that is personally useful and helpful. The author does not theorize, but tells you how to achieve success by showing how others have achieved it. He presents more concrete examples than are to be found in the books of any other single writer. The volumes are the fruit of many years of thought and labor. They are helpful and fascinating.” -The Publishers' Trade List Annual, Part 1, 1917
Not much has changed in the century since Orison Swett Marden wrote those words, and offered the antidote to them with this delightful little book. A forerunner of Dale Carnegie and Norman Vincent Peale, Stephen R.Covey and Anthony Robbins, and one of the prime figures in early self-help and motivational movements, Marden proclaims with joy the ways to cultivate positivity. He explains:
"The Cure for Americanitis" the benefits of "Singing at Your Work" "The Don't Worry Society" and much more.
First published in 1899, Cheerfulness as a Life Power is exactly as necessary today as it was then. Replete with charming anecdotes and pleasant advice, it offers the keys to acquiring "a habit of cheerfulness."
