9781492880639: Call Me Cockroach

Our prisons, mental hospitals, and streets are filled with tragic stories like Tuesday Storm's. Her childhood was riddled with torturous "games" and violent physical attacks. She was isolated from the rest of her family, locked in an attic with nothing but a bare bed and a bucket for a toilet, and fed just enough to keep her alive. The experts say it's next to impossible to find the soul's light in a dark past like Tuesday's. They say she'll never trust again after being betrayed by the people she loved most, or silence the voices inside her head telling her she's worthless and unloved. She's doomed to suffer a lifetime of depression and self-destructive behavior, and destined to be drawn to people who will again abuse her, or worse--she could become an abuser. That's what the experts say. And the thing about experts is--they're usually right. Call Me Cockroach is a chilling reminder of the unfortunate truth that no one survives the devastation of severe childhood trauma unscathed. For those of you who've read Byrne's compelling debut book, the Amazon bestseller, Call Me Tuesday, this memoir unveils what became of the gutsy little girl who spent her early years at the mercy of a mentally ill, sadistic mother. To everyone else, it's an honest glimpse into the tormented mind and troubled heart of a damaged woman determined to overcome the debilitating aftermath of a horrific childhood.

From the Author :

It's common knowledge that severe child abuse has the potential to create deeply disturbed, if not dangerous, adults. However, the truth is, most grown victims never perpetuate the cycle of abuse, commit a crime, or seek the help of mental health professionals. But make no mistake, we are damaged goods, living anonymously among you, struggling daily to conceal our pasts and fit in, often by turning our anger and pain inward, thereby abusing only ourselves. Call Me Cockroach is my attempt, as an abuse survivor, to make people more aware of the devastating ways in which trauma inflicted during our children's formative years can manifest itself in their adult lives.

About the Author :

Leigh Byrne is an American author whose books include two Amazon bestselling memoirs, the brutal Call Me Tuesday, in which she reveals her experiences as a victim of extreme child abuse, and Call Me Cockroach, detailing the bizarre ways her childhood trauma crippled her young adult life and her daily struggles to overcome these challenges. Leigh is currently working on a third book, Splatter, due to be released in 2016.
