Gemma is a self-taught artist whose artwork is enjoyed by many animal art collectors all over the world. Growing up on a small ranch in Southern California, Gemma Gylling developed her love of nature, animals and creativity. Gemma lives in Valley Springs, California with her husband, Bill, and their three dogs. Gemma is an avid traveler and thrives in locales that allow her the opportunity to photograph animals. In addition to most of the United States, Gemma has also traveled to Costa Rica, South Africa and Canada. Many of the reference photos Ms. Gylling uses for her paintings are from her wildlife safari in South Africa. Gemma is a member of Artists for Conservation, and she pledges a portion of her sales to animal conservation groups including PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) and the National Wildlife Federation. Gemma volunteers as a Docent for the lions and elephants at the PAWS Sanctuary in San Andreas, California. Gemma is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (and a national board member for 7 years), a member of the Society of Animal Artists, a signature member of Artists for Conservation, a member of the Pencil Art Society and a member of the Placerville Art Association. Gemma’s artwork has been featured in several publications, including: CP Treasures Vol. I-III, Colored Pencil Secrets for Success, Great Dogs — Amazing Artists, Jerry’s Art Catalog, Art Supply Warehouse Catalog, Artists for Conservation Exhibition Book (2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014), Strokes of Genius — Best of Drawing 4 & 5, and CPSA’s Signature Showcase.
