Biographie de l'auteur :
Distinguished and celebrated New Mexico historian Ray John de Aragón has a family connection to Billy the Kid going back several generations. His great grandmother, Doña Catalina Mondragón de Valdez, was a noted Curandera (Medicine Woman) who treated Billy the Kid in Antón Chico, New Mexico. She was also present in Las Vegas, New Mexico after Sheriff Pat Garrett captured the Kid at Stinking Springs and took him to the San Miguel County jail on December 26, 1880. She was gathered along with other onlookers as Billy was taken by wagon on Bridge Street to the jail. While Billy the Kid was held in the jail on Valencia Street, Doña Catalina, who lived three blocks away on North Pacific Street (now Hot Springs Boulevard), took baked goods to the friend she had treated and saved. This was the family lore Ray John heard as a young boy. Maximo de Aragón, the author’s father who was born in 1903, personally knew some of Billy’s associates and participants in the famous Lincoln County War. He added to a collection of Kid-connected photos he inherited from his grandmother. Ray John de Aragón has also contributed to this group of mementos, which is now recognized as a leading historical collection of Billy the Kid related artifacts.  His well known collection of memorabilia is featured in a special Billy the Kid exhibit at the Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts, and at the Special Collections Library of the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. De Aragón wrote a photo documentary book on Lincoln, New Mexico, published by Arcadia in its Images of America series. He also wrote the foreword to the reprint of The Real Billy the Kid by former New Mexico Territorial Governor Miguel Antonio Otero along with historian Marc Simmons who wrote the preface to the new edition.
Présentation de l'éditeur :
COWBOY STAR Roy Rogers, along with his horse Trigger, captivated audiences in his Return of Billy the Kid movies in the 1930’s. In 1949, DC’s All-Star Comics pitted Billy the Kid against Justice Society of America heroes. Billy faced up to Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Atom, Black Canary, Doctor Mid-Nite, and Wonder Woman. In 1966, Marvel Comics featured Billy the Kid in a showdown with the Two-Gun Kid. Billy has faced vigilantes and vampires, crooked judges and crooked lawmen—on film, in books, and comics. He has stood up to ghosts, evil men and mean spirits. In the history, myths, folklore and legends of Western America, the Kid is presented as both outlaw and lawman. In a contradiction, more often than not Billy the Kid fights for justice and the American way. Famed historian Ray John de Aragón explores the mystery behind the legend and unravels fresh insights for us. De Aragón is the first to examine Billy the Kid’s Hispanic connection. He also investigates Billy’s untimely demise from the gun of Sheriff Pat Garrett. The self-perpetuating image of Billy the Kid lives on, never ceases, and never dies.
