Présentation de l'éditeur :
Knapper’s Quarterly is a publication “for and about the knapper”. The publication presents a main cover story, featured articles on relevant topics, profiles of knappers (both living and past), and knap-in reports. Flintknapping is an ancient art that is still practiced around the world today, which involves the chipping of lithic or other materials to produce replicas of arrowheads, knives, and other stone tools. More recently, there is also a growing trend to produce forms known as eccentrics that are considered magnificent works of art, which can stand alone or be used as jewelry. While the publication is geared towards those who practice this as a hobby or work effort, it is also of interest to those who just generally appreciate the art form as well as archaeologists, scholars, outdoorsmen, survivalists, jewelry makers, artists, etc. Some of the topics covered in this Summer 2015, Volume 1, No.1 issue include: the progression of flintknapping into the 21st Century; a look back at flintknapping in southern California during the 1980s; Idaho flintknappers after Crabtree; a thoughtful contemplation about the surprising similarities between surfing and flintknapping; Stone Age fishing on the Mayberry River in Alabama; replicating gray ghost points with the Robert Blue jig; the Cahokia Project; Danish Daggers: the epic battle, and re-knapped broken points. Knapper profiles include Malayna Tanner, Phil Love and the late Are Tsirk as well as knap-in reports from Quartzite, Pedernales, Niblett’s Bluff Park, North Columbia River, and Chilao School.
