Sitting in a bar one early evening in an island in Vietnam, I was talking to some backpackers who I made friends with during that trip. They told me that they’ve just come from the Philippines, just a few hours’ flight away, which had the most amazing scenery they’ve encountered during their Asian sojourn. Their eyes gleamed with delight as they told stories about the places, people, and the food. The Philippines and all her 7,107 islands has remained the biggest secret of Asia, known only to the most intrepid and adventurous of travelers. However it’s quickly becoming the vacation hotspot of choice. Unlike its Asian neighbors the Philippines still has numerous unspoiled beaches, breathtaking outdoor scenery, majestic mountains, and countless cultural attractions.
