55 full color paintings by early Cubist adopter Jean Metzinger: Full Name Jean Dominique Antony Metzinger, he was born on the 24th of June 1883 and lived until the 3rd of November 1956. He was born in Nantes France and Died in Paris France. Metzinger came from a family with a strong military background. His great grandfather had served as a Captain under Napoleon Bonaparte. Metzinger along with Alber Gleizes helped develop the art style of Cubism. Hid early art was heavily influenced by George Seurat and Henry Edmond Cross. From 1904-1907 he painted mostly in the Divisionism and fauvism styles. From 1908 on Metzinger primarily painted in what would become the Cubism style. His book Note Sur la Peinture was the first discussion where the artist moved an object around to showcase varying viewpoints. In 1912 along with Albert Gleizes they published the book Du Cubisme. This was the first comprehensive text on the Cubism movement and had several black and white photographs of works by, Paul Cézanne (1), Gleizes (5), Metzinger (5), Fernand Léger (5), Juan Gris (1), Francis Picabia (2), Marcel Duchamp (2), Pablo Picasso (1), Georges Braque (1), André Derain (1), and Marie Laurencin (2).
