Présentation de l'éditeur :
Excerpt from Merck's 1901 Manual of the Materia Medica: A Ready-Reference Pocket Book for the Practicing Physician and Surgeon
Merck's Manual for 1899 was accorded by physicians everywhere such unstinted praise that the publishers have been encouraged thereby to do their best to make the present edition still more acceptable. The numerous valuable suggestions, offered in response to the request for ideas and criticisms, were the chief guides to the changes made and have resulted in the production of this compact volume, which we sincerely hope and firmly believe will prove of value to every practicing physician. The solubilities and Incompatibilities of the various drugs and chemicals, and all the important new remedies of the year have been added to Part I. A Fokmulary of well-selected prescriptions, gleaned from standard medical works, from medical journals, and from the formularies of leading hospitals, has taken the place of the Therapeutic Indications of the former edition. The prescriptions are arranged in accordance with the conditions which indicate their uses, thus enabling the reader to see at a glance the purpose each. is intended to serve. The object in presenting them is to show how other medical men have treated the various diseases and to thereby suggest to the reader how from his own store of knowledge he may construct prescriptions exactly adapted to the requirements of his patients. Part It. (new) will be found full of valuable additions, not the least of which is the article on Poisoning and its Treatment. Here for the first time the reader will find a statement of the quantities of the antidotes that should be used, together with explanations as to why and when to use them.
