Edwin A. Abbott (1838–1926) was an English schoolmaster and theologian honored for his academic work in classics, mathematics, and theology. He studied at the City of London School and St. John’s College, Cambridge, and went on to hold masterships at King Edward’s School, Birmingham. At the age of twenty-six, he became headmaster of the City of London School. Flatland was published in 1884, and it is considered by many to be one of the most unique works of fiction ever written.
