Présentation de l'éditeur :

John Clayton III, an orphan boy, comes of age in the western coastal jungles of Africa following the tragic deaths of his aristocratic parents. Raised in the ways of the apes by his adoptive mother, Kala, he is renamed Tarzan and ascends to king through feats of revenge and courage.

When a group of explorers brings the beautiful Jane Porter to the jungle, a lovelorn Tarzan decides to follow her to the United States to win her love. On his journey back into human society, Tarzan must decide whether to return to the jungle or reclaim his past.

Fast-paced and suspenseful, Tarzan of the Apes was wildly successful and generated two dozen sequels; and many film, radio, and comic-book adaptations.

AmazonClassics brings you timeless works from the masters of storytelling. Ideal for anyone who wants to read a great work for the first time or rediscover an old favorite, these new editions open the door to literature’s most unforgettable characters and beloved worlds.

Revised edition: Previously published as Tarzan of the Apes, this edition of Tarzan of the Apes (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

Biographie de l'auteur :

Native Chicagoan Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) arrived at authorship later in life. Best known for the novels Tarzan of the Apes and A Princess of Mars, Burroughs was a prolific writer whose work was often serialized and spanned many genres, most notably fantasy and science fiction. His work has been praised by writers Ray Bradbury and Rudyard Kipling, and his legacy was recognized by the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2003. He died at the age of seventy-four in Encino, California, though his tales of Tarzan and adventurer John Carter continue to live on in the imaginations of readers.
