This volume is a practical guide for home visitors that provides information about and activities for interacting with parents, caregivers, and young children. This guide developed out of three different training curricula used in Invest in Kids workshops for professionals who work with families of children at risk or who have disabilities as well as typically developing children. The book is divided into four sections. ""Overview and Protocols"" contains a framework that guides the initial contact and evolving relationship with families. ""Activities to Strengthen Parenting Capacity"" provides interactive exercises to engage the parent in areas of social competence, empathy and caring, problem solving, and coping and resilience. ""Parent-Child Focused Activities"" presents a positive parenting approach through ""Comfort, Play, and Teach"" activities, and the last section, ""Frequently Asked Questions"", contains information on more than 20 topics in child development.
