He is a Fellow of the Division of Clinical Neuropsychology of the American Psychological Association and of the National Academy of Neuropsychology. He has also testified in a number of civil, criminal, and capital cases locally and nationally.

Review :

"Forensic neuropsychology has undergone rapid growth in the past decade. In contrast to traditional, topical texts, this casebook has the advantage of showing the reader how forensic neuropsychology is actually practiced. The volume covers a wide range of forensic topics, including workers' compensation, personal injury litigation, cross-cultural issues, competency in the elderly, and criminal competency and responsibility. The 'Ask the Experts' section solicits responses to commonly encountered issues from three well-known forensic neuropsychologists. This volume will be of interest to both novice and seasoned forensic neuropsychologists, and is also appropriate as a graduate-level or postdoctoral training text."--Glenn J. Larrabee, PhD, independent practice, Sarasota, Florida

“In the best tradition of Sherlock Holmes, this book takes you inside the minds of some of the country’s most prominent neuropsychologists as they try to understand the symptoms and stories that patients present. Dr. Heilbronner and his contributing authors provide a compelling approach to forensic neuropsychology that goes beyond numbers and percentiles.”--Scott R. Millis, PhD, MEd, Wayne State University School of Medicine

"Reading this book is like sitting down with some of your most knowledgeable colleagues to hear details of their 'trials' (literally!) and tribulations. The authors relate lessons learned from specific cases and model the best ways to participate ethically and conscientiously in the adversarial legal arena. The book will be valuable for novices seeking some ground rules and pointers from those who have been there, as well as for more experienced neuropsychologists. It is a practical read that offers insightful perspectives on what it is like for a clinician to step onto an attorney’s playing field. Truly helpful and informative."--Ida Sue Baron, PhD, private practice, Potomac, Maryland, and Reston, Virginia; Department of Pediatrics, The George Washington University School of Medicine

"This may be the only book on medicolegal aspects of neuropsychology that is a genuine page turner. It is hard to put down because each case presentation is a detective story (the neuropsychological kind) within a detective story (the litigated kind). The authors are leading experts who share their wealth of practical experience to give the reader the sense of being an insider in each case. A valuable complement to typical academic texts, this book is a 'must' for forensic neuropsychologists and the attorneys who retain them, and should be of high interest to advanced trainees in neuropsychology who want to see what it really feels like to do this work."-- Robert M. Bilder, PhD, UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital

"This book provides valuable and candid comments regarding forensic experiences in a wide variety of settings, by an equally varied group of clinical neuropsychologists. Most chapters end with a 'Lessons Learned' section which provides an opportunity for the authors to reflect on what the forensic experience taught them. This is a very valuable component to the book, one that underscores the importance of self-awareness for reducing bias when rendering expert opinion. Clinical neuropsychologists unfamiliar with the turbulent waters of forensic work will likely find this book helpful when navigating them."--George P. Prigatano, PhD, Department of Clinical Neuropsychology, Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center

"I found this book to be highly entertaining. The cases were fascinating and many of the authors wrote with style and wit....Will serve as a very useful adjunct to a standard forensic neuropsychology textbook for the novice as well as the experienced clinician. It provides a window into the practice of forensic neuropsychology as it exists in the real world and fosters a process of self-examination that may increase a practitioner's competence and ethical purity. Besides, it's a good read." (Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society 2005-06-17)

"Most books on neuropsychological assessment are a dry read at best....Forensic Neuropsychology Casebook changes that....A fascinating, thought-provoking series of adventure stories that takes the reader behind the scenes as some of the most prominent neuropsychologists use their intuition and intellect to unravel the mysteries presented by their patients in a fashion more suited to Sherlock Holmes than Alexander Luria....Heilbronner designed this book to be both informative and entertaining, and he meets both goals." (PsycCRITIQUES 2005-06-17)
