At the beginning of the text there are five pages of maps. Photographic paperback binding with French flaps and orange and white coloured titles to the front panel and pink and white coloured titles to the back strip. Sepia toned photograph of author, as a young soldier, to the rear panel. The author, Robert Holman and his brother Jack, were young men who volunteered for the Australian Army at the outbreak of World War II. They found themselves in the most extraordinary circumstances for, not, only were they captured at the fall of Singapore and sent to Changi prison; they were then transferred to the infamous Burma Railway; and, finally were two the coal mines of Japan to be used as slave labour. This is their story as remembered by Robert, and the editor gives a historical background to the memoirs. Minor rubbing to the book corners and to the panels. Very light age toning of the text block edges with gift inscription to the top right-hand corner of the half title page.
