Acclaimed by Lou Reed himself, Waiting For The Man is the fully updated and revised edition of Jeremy Reed's part-biography, part-musical review of one of the most legendary figures in alternative music.
The mystery and enigma that is Lou Reed, founder of 'The Velvet Underground' and acclaimed solo artist in his own right, has been the subject of intense interest and fascination since he burst onto the New York art rock scene in the 1960s. For fans of the illustrious poet and songwriter, this book is as comprehensive as possible in its exploration of the life, the career and the art of the pop culture icon.
Jeremy Reed (no relation to his subject) is a poet himself, so takes an originally insightful perspective into not just the biography, but the music and lyrics of Lou Reed. The influence of the songwriter on contemporary rock music is incomparable, therefore this book is perfect not just for the fan of 1960s underground rock and proto-punk, but for any fan of rock music since its inception.
With his authoritative voice, uniquely poetic lyrics and groundbreaking creative impulse, the late Lou Reed deserves his legendary status. Waiting For The Man is the only biography and critical assessment of the man's life and music that can do justice to the pioneer of punk.

Jeremy Reed is an award-winning poet, novelist and counterculture biographer, who has published over 30 books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. He performs with the Ginger Light, unique in their genre as pioneers of spoken word and music. Amongst his recent publications are Piccadilly Bongo, a collection of poetry enhanced by a CD of Marc Almond Soho songs, his biography of the sixties fashion designer John Stephen King of Carnaby Street, a novel Here Comes The Nice, and upcoming The Dilly, A Secret History of Piccadilly Rent Boys and a collection of poems Sooner Or Later Frank. He has been called by Pete Doherty "a legend, what more can you ask?" by J.G. Ballard "the most original poet writing today" and by Bjork "the most beautiful outrageous poet in the world."
In Waiting For The Man, Jeremy Reed focuses on Lou Reed as rocks principal literary avatar, paying special attention to his controversial lyrics and prototypical garage sound. Finally the book examines the transcendent, if reluctant, calm, that Reed arrived at in later life.
