9781783480555: Being Digital Citizens
Présentation de l'éditeur :

From the rise of cyberbullying and hactivism to the issues surrounding online privacy rights and freedom of speech, the digital world is changing the ways in which we govern and are governed as citizens. This book examines the ways in which citizens throughout the world engage with the new sorts of rights, duties, opportunities and challenges that they encounter and perform as political agents online. By disrupting the prevailing understandings of the concepts of citizenship and cyberspace, the authors highlight the dynamic interface between these elements rather than assuming one or the other as static or established facts . In doing so, the book demonstrates that the confluences and differences between conducting ourselves in local, transnational and cyber spaces are creating the need for a new theoretical framework to understand political citizenship today.

Description du livre Rowman Littlefield International, United Kingdom, 2015. Hardback. État : New. 226 x 155 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book. From the rise of cyberbullying and hactivism to the issues surrounding digital privacy rights and freedom of speech, the Internet is changing the ways in which we govern and are governed as citizens. This book examines how citizens encounter and perform new sorts of rights, duties, opportunities and challenges through the Internet. By disrupting prevailing understandings of citizenship and cyberspace, the authors highlight the dynamic relationship between these two concepts. Rather than assuming that these are static or established facts of politics and society, the book shows how the challenges and opportunities presented by the Internet inevitably impact upon the action and understanding of political agency. In doing so, it investigates how we conduct ourselves in cyberspace through digital acts. This book provides a new theoretical understanding of what it means to be a citizen today for students and scholars across the social sciences. N° de réf. du libraire AAZ9781783480555
