Chandra Prakash Gupta was born on 12 October 1933 in Farrukhabad, a small industrial city close to Agra on the bank of the Ganges. He was educated at the University of Agra, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He was later awarded an MA in Economics. After moving to England in 1968, C P Gupta was appointed Coordinator of Multi-ethnic Education, where he was responsible for curriculum development in schools. As a result of his extensive teaching experience he decided to write this abridged Bhagwat Geeta. C P Gupta is married and has five children.
