Présentation de l'éditeur :
The Art Handbooks provide the best in art tuition in a small, handy format, covering all the major aspects of painting and drawing in various media. There is excellent advice on what materials are needed and on basic techniques, followed by step-by-step demonstrations with clear photographs of each stage and easy to follow instructions. Wendy Tait's excellent introduction to painting flowers in watercolour provides and inspirational and practical guide to producing beautiful flower paintings in this medium. There is clear information on what materials you need and on choosing colours, composition and painting terms such as counterchange, lost and found edges and aerial perspective. Skills are then built up through seven beautiful step by step demonstrations including primroses, pansies and heather, anemones, cyclamen, roses and a mixed bunch of flowers. Beginners can use the book as a course in watercolour flower painting, while more experienced artists will be inspired by the beautiful paintings and expert advice. The Art Handbooks were originally published in a larger format as the best-selling Step by Step Leisure Arts series.
Revue de presse :
Given that this is only the second title in this series, full marks to Wendy for subverting it already. Not so much because I always rather admire a rebel but because it means that the format is already being opened up and that can't be a bad thing if it's not to become formulaic. It's immediately apparent that the outlines which are (so far) a feature of the series are here really only a jumping-off point and that Wendy has introduced a great deal more subtlety than is possible in a fill-in-the-tracings approach. In fact what she provides, through a series of simple and simply explained examples, is one of the most thorough-going primers in flower painting around. There's a good variety of flower types, some very handy notes on colour mixing for this style of painting and basic captions that tell you how the main elements of the composition were handled. Beyond that, it's up to you, but Wendy provides so much of the basics that you should be able to fly solo without much difficulty.-Artbookreview.net --Artbookreview.net
