9781845842598: Ferrari 312P & 312PB (WSC Giants)

The late 1960s and early 1970s formed a significant epoch in the world of international sports car racing. As the motor racing rule-making body moved back and forth between cars that less and less resembled road-going vehicles, prototype sports car racing captured the imagination of manufacturers, teams and fans alike. Porsche vs Ferrari vs Alfa Romeo vs Matra provided some of the best ever racing for sports cars. At first the 5-litre Porsches and Ferraris battled through 1970 and 1971, but the 3-litre prototypes that previously had run in another class rapidly became more and more competitive. By 1973, the Ferrari 312PB, little more than a Grand Prix car with full bodywork, was dominating the scene. This has always been viewed as one of the great eras in sports car racing, when all the Grand Prix drivers were fully active in sports cars as well as F1 machines. With 100 contemporary pictures, this is the story of a great time in motor sport history.

About the Author :

Co-founder and Editor-at-Large of Auto Italia magazine in the UK since 1994, Peter Collins' enthusiasm for Italian motorsport emanated from Le Mans 1967 as a Ferrari supporter. He has subsequently become intimately involved in the total Italian motoring scene, both with the cars and the people. Peter has now published several books with Veloce, including books about the Lancia Delta Integrale, Alfa Romeo Tipo 33, Ferrari 312P, and British Touring Car Racing. Ed McDonough is a renowned and experienced motoring writer. He is European Editor of Vintage Racecar magazine, and one of the few journalists in the privileged position of being able to test and race the historic machinery he writes about. He has raced for over forty years, and still competes in international and historic events – several of his books have featured reports from his own test drives. Ed also does radio commentary at Goodwood, Monaco and American events. He lives in Northampton, England.

Review :

"A comprehensive little book on some superb Ferrari sports cars. Full results and plenty of interesting images make this a very useful reference book." – Motor Sport "McDonough and Collins succeed in giving us the last word on these classic Ferraris. It is a smallish book at only 128 pages long, but it proves that good things come in small packages." – sportscardigest.com

"The paperback book is a handy size for easy reference and appears to be well-researched with full results and plenty of interesting images. Out of print since 2011 it is a worthwhile addition to any motoring library." - Ferrari Magazine

"A handy, compact addition to any Ferrari Library. – Classic & Sports Car "A well-researched potted guide to variations of a Ferrari sports-prototype icon." – Octane "Includes the developmental and race history, with a full list of all events and individual chassis numbers of the cars that competed." – Startline "This is the first book devoted solely to Ferrari's 312P and 312PB models, and it features many rare and previously unpublished photos." – Vintage Racecar
