Présentation de l'éditeur :
the Russian President discovers that he has inherited an old Soviet operation to destabilise the British Establishment by exploding a vast Masonic scandal when Russia's 'illegal resident', urbane Kate Holland (Katya Bezsmertnik), 'defects' in New York. The President's 'nyet' is thwarted by outmoded technology and Katya's love affair with Edmund Rossington Bart., her chief source on Masonic misdoings. Murder, treason, Mafia and CIA involvement lead to swift action and an unpreductable end. It is the women - Katya and Cynthia Pyle, MI5's top spinster - who upset a cosy male environment. And it's the psychology of the varied cast that determines the twists of the story. We meet 'straight' French Canadian lawyer Guy Monceau, appalled when his 'hoodwink' is removed; his 'big Mason' partner Jeremy Street, obsessed with burying a multitude of sins; nervy John Almond, reluctant spy inside Freemasons' Hall; Giulio Scatta, a Mason/Mafia 'interface', and his 'heavy' Rodge Jockman; and spy-masters Leonov and Medvedyev, the Tweedledum and Tweedledee of Russian espionage. Hoodwink, like Torr's other espionage novels, has a rare authenticity - thanks to his years in the front lines of the 'cold war'. set in the shadow world of England's over 300,000 Freemasons - our last taboo subject. Carefully researched, Hoodwink is not only a gripping post Soviet spy yarn - it reveals how Freemasonry is abused and the hold it has on the most sensitive areas of our society.
