His childhood in rural Jamaica gave Caswell Ewan all too little to build on. From a poor and poorly educated family, he had to squeeze in with relatives to make ends meet. Yet Caswell found he had building skills he could develop, and he dared to hope he could build a better life if only he could make it to Britain. Yet emigrating to what was an alien world, where even fellow train passengers were cold, was only the beginning of his journey. Years of challenge, hard work, shock and joy were to build up to a story readers from ethnic minorities will recognise, and native Britons can recognise themselves. Now settled and happily retired in England with his wife and family, Caswell has relived his life story. A story about getting on that everyone can relate to, but also be inspired by: A builder who built himself a life.
