Raoul Duvalier is a captain in the Foreign Legion.
A fit, tough and confident soldier.
The legion’s motto is Legio Patria Nostra: The Legion is Our Country.
And yet although they fight and die for France, every few years the government tries to abolish the Legion because politicians are afraid of it.
When he parachutes straight into the midst of the Vietnam War, Raoul encounters hellish conditions.
In the epic battle at Dien Bien Phu, Duvalier is tortured at the hands of the Viets, a POW in a jungle prison camp. He is left at the mercy of the sadistic Commissar Minh and forced to tell his captors where they hid their precious gold.
Years later, Raoul meets with his old legion friend Koenig, who is now a criminal on the run, betrayed on a mission in Algeria and Raoul is still a cripple.
He invites him on a mission to find the lost gold, revealing he only gave the whereabouts of half of it to his captors.
He begins collecting members of the legion to help him, choosing a young American, Frank, Irishman Patrick, Englishman, Roger and German, Hans-Peter.
But quickly the men argue and fight among themselves and over the beautiful Marie France who ends up pregnant...
Raoul struggles to trust all his men and his suspicions are proved to be true years later when Frank dies in suspicious circumstances and it comes to light that there was a traitor in the group, after the money for himself.
Commissar Minh intends to grab the second cache of gold and Kill Rapul, who has to face the fact that someone in his team has betrayed him.
Who is the traitor?
It’s a race against time to find the guilty man before even more men are killed...
‘The Eagle and the Snake’ is a gripping roller-coaster of secrets, violence and romance.
