The present book covers 44 species, four of which are described for the first time. Thirty-six species are illustrated by Auriol Batten in exquisite, full-page water-colour paintings, each showing part of a flowering stem life-size, together with enlarged details of the parts of the flower and a pencil sketch of the plant in its natural habitat. Photographs of a dried specimen illustrate the eight species for which neither living material nor color slides were available (from the jacket flap).
