Dempsey has a long tradition with, and writing about, the Blackfoot people. In these 250 indexed pages he takes on the first peoples on both sides of the Medicine Line. His time frame is roughly contact to present day. A few b/w photographs and a b/w map assist text. There were two Calf Shirts - the second, a nephew of the first, is written up in the Snake Man chapter. You will also meet Deerfoot the runner and before him, Lilltle Plume,whom a Calgary betting syndicate took to Winnipeg to compete for prizes. Many Braids, Small Eyes and Rides at the Door are also here. The landscape they inhabit includes: Slideout, Bullhorn Creek, Blackfoot Crossing, Billings, and Fort Macleod. Find out more about neighbouring ranchers and well-meaning missionaries. Cond : Paper wrapper is white with blue and yellow decoration and rust coloured lettering. Front cover graphic is from a C.M. Russell painting and involves a meeting between Blackfoot and Sioux. Volume is tight, bright, square, and clean. Light general wear. No names, no ters. Almost giftable ! ! Quote (p. 142) : " Calf Shirt dug a hole in the ground near his bed and there a large rattlesnake usually lay coiled.
