An understanding of therapeutics and pharmacology promotes improved patient care through a better understanding of the efficacy and mechanisms of action of medicines. The aim of this book is to provide medical students with a concise yet comprehensive overview of therapeutics and pharmacology. It has been written with the busy medical student in mind - covering all areas that would be expected in most medical school curricula. The following system has been used to facilitate learning: Mechanism of action: how the drug works; examples of types of drugs; example prescriptions; indications; contraindications; common side effects; and significant interactions. The title reflects clinical practice concentrating on commonly prescribed drugs. Students who have read and understood this book will be in an excellent position to excel in undergraduate examinations, and will find drug prescribing a rewarding and exciting challenge as they enter their foundation years in clinical medicine.
Biographie de l'auteur :
Paul Hamilton qualified in medicine from Queen's University Belfast in 2003. He is currently a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Belfast City Hospital.David McCluskey is Head of the Division of Medicine and Therapeutics, Queen's University Belfast and Consultant Physician to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. He has been involved in undergraduate medical education for over 25 years. He has been external examiner in a number of Medical Schools and examines in the UK Membership Paces examination and for the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland Part 2 Membership.Dennis Johnston DSc MD PhD FRCP FRCPI Consultant Physician, Belfast City Hospital, Belfast and Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics, Queen's University of Belfast, Belfast.Catherine Ritchie MD FRCP MPhil Consultant Physician, Craigavon Area Hospital, Craigavon.
