Joan Gannij began her career as a writer/photographer, rock and roll disc jockey and creator of two syndicated radio talk shows. Born in New York and raised in Hollywood, she worked on both coasts before relocating to Amsterdam in 1987, where she currently resides as a writer and part-time teacher of creative writing at a local college. Brought up with the idea that travel is the best education, Joan says my life has been enriched by my travels and all of the fascinating people and places that I have encountered. This is apparent in her recent work as she's authored a number of travel guides on northern countries such as Finland, Norway, the Baltic States, and Iceland. Along with exhibiting her collection of photography, she has also authored three books of poetry and prose. Elusive Moose (2006) is her first project for Barefoot Books. Clare Beaton worked at the BBC for eight years, illustrating on many children's television programmes. She is now a highly sought-after creator of handcrafted children's picture books. Clare has had nearly fifty books published, including One Moose, Twenty Mice (Barefoot Books, 1998) and Mother Goose Remembers (Barefoot Books, 2000), both of which have attracted considerable praise.
'Clare Beaton is another perennial favourite of mine. She provides beautifully stitched felt and bric-a-brac illustrations for a range of Barefoot titles. The latest, Elusive Moose, packs in a lot of information about the animal kingdom and even has a stitched guide to their tracks' --Nicola Smyth, The Independent on Sunday
'The beautifully simple fabric collages perfectly complement this gentle story through the northern lands with its animals.' --Angels & Urchins
