Quatrième de couverture :

Tenth anniversary edition, fully updated, with stunning new photographs

'With passion and commitment thousands of "small" people built Eden as a symbol of hope in action...We may all have feet of clay, but that shouldn't stop us trying to make a difference...We say, "Demand the impossible."' Tim Smit

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the impossible was delivered. From the sterile depths of a disused china clay pit in Cornwall rose one of the most remarkable and ambitious ventures in recent memory. The Eden Project's iconic biomes, the world's largest conservatories, are the symbol of a living theatre of plants and people and their interdependence, of regeneration and of a pioneering forum for the exploration of possible futures.Since Eden opened its doors to the world in March 2001, over eleven million visitors have flocked there, drawn by the astonishing vision of its founders, the ever-changing horticulture and the futuristic architecture.

This is the extraordinary story of the Eden Project, of its conception, design and construction, and of the larger-than-life personalities who made it happen. It is the story of how the hope and energy of many men and women transformed a thrilling idea into the breathtaking reality of one of the world's great gardens. But Eden is more: it has mutated into an organization with projects and partnerships all over the world concerned with rehabilitation (physical and social), community education, biodiversity, town planning and sustainable construction and green employment.

Biographie de l'auteur :
Sir Tim Smit KBE was born in 1954 in Scheveningen, Holland, and educated in the UK. After graduating from Durham University he worked as a county archaeologist before spending ten years as a record producer and composer, successful in Europe, the USA and Japan. In 1987 he and his family moved to Cornwall where, with John Nelson, he was to ‘discover’ Heligan. His best-selling book, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, is an account of the discovery and restoration of the mysterious estate that time forgot.

Sir Tim is Executive Vice-Chairman, and Co-founder of the award-winning Eden Project in Cornwall. He is a trustee, patron and board member of a number of statutory and voluntary bodies both locally and nationally. He has been awarded honorary doctorates and fellowships by a number of universities, and his national awards include The Royal Society of Arts Albert Medal (2003); ‘Great Briton of 2007’ in the Environment category of the Morgan Stanley Great Britons Awards; and a special award at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (2011), which recognises the contribution of people who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement. He regularly broadcasts on TV and radio, and has been the subject both of ‘This is Your Life’ and ‘Desert Island Discs’.
