From the Back Cover :

Illustrated Children s Books is a celebration of the power of the picture-book and its great ability to capture the imaginations of children and adults alike.
With a Foreword by Anthony Browne, Illustrated Children s Books takes us on a visual journey through the history of this unique medium. From Struwwelpeter to Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, from Dogger to Angelina Ballerina, the book explores old favorites as well as showcasing cutting-edge new talent, and shines a light on the printing processes, design formats and character illustrations of some of the best loved children s books from the past 250 years.
Peter Hunt follows the early development of illustrated books in his essay on the first appearances of literature for children, up until the mid-1940s, and Lisa Sainsbury picks up the trail and traces the history of the picture-book in her essay from 1945 to the present day.
Featuring profiles on esteemed authors and illustrators, including Richard Scarry, Quentin Blake and Mini Grey, Illustrated Children s Books is a testament to the lasting impression picture-books place in our imagination, and our memories of them.
