Revue de presse :
This book is not good for one's wellbeing because I nearly fell out of bed with the story of the rose, and several others, plus it keeps one awake too long because it is so interesting! --Tom Wotton

What a winner: congratulations: I loved your book and could not put it down. I hope you sell many copies. I knew that you had had an eventful life but this is exciting stuff. --Ben Hoskyns-Abrahal

... book arrived last week and has been read cover to cover, in fact I have just finished it. Well done on a great effort, and I hope you sell it well. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought you had done a terrific job. What a tragic sadness Zim has become ~ criminal really. --Don Rooken-Smith

I have found it absolutely fascinating and have been unable to put it down - and what a feat of memory. --John Yeldham

I have just read Scrambled Africa. Your book brought back many memories of Kenya, school and friends. I started reading it with nostalgia for my early life in Kenya and wondered what life would have been like had I stayed. I finished reading it with a sense of amazement that you had chosen to remain in Zimbabwe after all that had happened to you there. The chapters detailing the descent of Zimbabwe into thuggery were painful to read. It is all so comparatively recent, but so easily forgotten by the outside World. That you had an interesting life is an understatement. You write in a straightforward and engaging way. Many pour scorn on the White Settlers in Africa. I hope that these people read your book and get some idea of the point of view of those settlers, what they contributed and what they went through when a dictator turned on them and in the process beggared his country. There was plenty of interest in the book, I admired the detail. You quote so many names and details over such a long period. You must have a phenomenal memory. Alternatively, you have the discipline to keep detailed diaries. Congratulations for writing such a readable book that records a period in Africa spanning the end of the British Colonial period and the first decades of independence that promised so much to the native Africans and delivered so little for anyone except the few who got their hands on power and are determined to keep it. --Peter Randall

What an interesting, adventurous and fascinating life you have lived. So, so good to have it all down in the book and incredibly interesting for all of us and future generations. You, father and your contempories have lived in a time covering so much change - the richness and variety of this change comes through strongly in your book and whilst not easy at times, the way in which you have all adapted and journeyed with the change is most impressive and a lesson to us all. Thank you for writing it. --Ant and Emma
Biographie de l'auteur :
Mark Milbank was born in England at the onset of World War II, before emigrating to Kenya with his parents during the post-war depression. Mark was to spend the following sixty-five years in Africa on a rollercoaster ride from the colonial days of Kenya and the Mau Mau rebellion, through apartheid South Africa, Rhodesia s UDI and bush war, to Independence and prosperity, and finally the purge of Zimbabwe's white farmers and the country's subsequent chaos. He still lives in Zimbabwe with his second wife Nikki, plays bad golf, and tries to visit his now scattered family as often as possible.
