Matthew M Vriends, professor of biology at Suffolk county community college, Long Island, New York (USA), is a Dutch biologist and ornithologist who holds several advanced degrees (an MA and MEd), including a phD, in zoology. He has written over one hundred books on birds, mammals and many other animals. His detailed works on parrotlets, Australian parakeets, finches and doves are well known. Tanya M Heming-Vriends was born in The Hague, in the Netherlands, and went to the United States in 1977. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, and this is the tenth book that she has worked on with her farther.
