Présentation de l'éditeur :
Britain: 1940. Flying Officer Joan Worralson, known to her friends as 'Worrals', is stationed at a RAF airfield - but though she is a qualified pilot, she is not allowed to fly alongside her male colleagues - until a mysterious plane plunges her into aerial combat. Soon she and her loyal sidekick 'Frecks' are pitted against a ruthless gang of Nazi spies, and the girls need every ounce of skill and courage to save the day. This is the first of the 'Worrals' novels by W E Johns, creator of 'Biggles', and it packs in plenty of adventure. But 'Worrals' is also battling the chauvinism of the RAF 'Top Brass', who think girls have no place at the controls of an aeroplane. Johns, who championed the role of women in aviation in 'Popular Flying' magazine, took the chance of an invitation by the Air Ministry to write about the Women's Auxiliary Air Force to create a true feminist icon. Worrals has the mix of courage, ability and acerbic wit needed to outface the Brass Hats - and win friends amongst readers young and old alike. The 'Worrals' books were immensely popular in the 1940s and 1950s - but have been out of print for years. Now they have been brought up to date with new illustrations and a new-look design to charm readers aged 8-12 - but inside are the same classic and timeless tales that entertained and inspired their mothers and grandmothers. Published in association with the RAF Museum: a donation is made for each copy sold.
