The Auvergne is a region known for its exceptional natural environment: a rugged landscape where water springs forth from the outcrops of rock formed by the lava flow of ancient volcanoes. As eruptions occurred over the millennia in ranges composed of different types of minerals, the mountains acquired various unique features. Some are fragmented and craggy, others have rounded domes with sharply sloped sides, still others are topped with magnificent crater lakes. The region, although it is in the centre of the country, was long cut off from the rest of France because of a lack of roads and railways.
In contrast, the Rhône Valley bas always been an important trade and communication route. In addition to the river itself, road and rail transport have made it a European artery for both commerce and culture. Lyon, the regional capital, is renown for culinary excellence and fine arts. Since Roman times, marvellous wines have tome from Valley vineyards. North of the region of Côtes du Rhône production lie the famous vineyards of Beaujolais.
In these two regions, you will find distinctive traces of the evolution of the natural world as well as traces of two thousand years of culture and history; have ample opportunity to engage, in sports or enjoy haute cuisine; be able to choose to admire a work of art or to close your eyes and relax in the warm waters of a thermal spa resort.

Voyagez en Vert ! La collection Guide vert de Michelin n'a plus rien à prouver. Régulièrement réactualisé, ce compagnon de voyage, transmis de génération en génération, apparaît encore comme une "institution" toujours aussi efficace dans son contenu : cartes détaillées (légendes à l'appui, on est pas Michelin pour rien !), format pratique à la couleur caractéristique, présentation riche et complète traitant, comme à son habitude, l'ensemble des thèmes culturels du pays. Grâce à son classement par ordre alphabétique, on obtient toujours facilement et rapidement les informations souhaitées. De plus, grande nouveauté, la version 2000, présente désormais de bonnes adresses d'hébergement et de restauration, on aime les efforts d'illustrations, mais surtout les renseignements pratiques très complets dont les horaires de musées (et les prix), une approche linguistique, les dates des grandes fêtes, etc.

Couvrant quasiment toutes les destinations d'Europe, la France entière et quelques pays à l'étranger, ce guide culturel par excellence, toujours au goût du jour, s'adresse aux curieux d'infos historiques et/ou amoureux de dates et musées.
