Macquenoise by Belgium photographer Pierre Liebaert is a very curious project presented in an interesting format. The photographer managed to earn the trust of a family: mother and her adult son who live in a Macquenoise, a Belgian village on the border with France. Pierre Liebaert captures moments of their mostly uneventful life which has it is own beauty and sadness. They go hunting, raise chickens, stay in nature, and looks like TV is their only link to modernity. The photographs are printed in a newsprint format (stitched binding!), which is folded and inserted into a folded cardboard. It is simple, elegant and playful. Opened cardboard cover and folded newsprint form a gun, so does newsprint when you unfold it. It does create an intriguing atmosphere and sets a certain dynamic to the publication. Excellent writing by Septembre Tiberghien. Macquenoise is a poetry.
