Since 1995, Italian photographer Guido Guidi has been working on photographic studies of the Brion family s memorial vault, designed by Carlo Scarpa and located in San Vito d'Altivole. Scarpa (1906 1978) is one of the twentieth century s most important architects; this monument was designed in the 1970s, and it is considered one of his most important works. Using a large-format camera, Guidi an admirer of Scarpa s work has observed and examined the burial site at different times of the day and in different seasons, over a period of many years. With much patience, and by constantly changing his standpoint and perspective, Guidi has created remarkable works that highlight the inventive details of the tomb. Scarpa s monument can be seen as a clear, formally strict, yet multifaceted work, whose effects alter depending on the light and time of day, but which nevertheless remains consistently impressive all of the time.
