Synopsis
Las obras de Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) se cuentan entre las más conocidas y alabadas del mundo. En lienzos como Los girasoles, La noche estrellada, Autorretrato con oreja vendada y en muchos otros cuadros y dibujos llegamos a identificar a un artista con un don único para retratar estados de ánimo y situaciones gracias a su maestría en el uso de las pinturas, los lápices, los carboncillos y las tizas.
Mientras aplicaba esos colores potentes, en pinceladas enfáticas y formas contorneadas que, con el tiempo, definirían su estilo -verdadera inspiración para generaciones venideras de artistas- Van Gogh padeció el desinterés del público de su tiempo y sufrió devastadores brotes de trastornos mentales. Sus episodios de depresión y ansiedad acabaron por costarle la vida: Van Gogh se suicidó en 1890, poco después de su 37 cumpleaños.

À propos de l?auteur
Ingo F. Walther (1940–2007) estudió Literatura e Historia del Arte en Fráncfort del Meno y Múnich. Escribió y editó numerosos estudios sobre el arte de la Edad Media y de los siglos XIX y XX, entre los cuales se encuentran Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Arte del siglo XX y Codices illustres publicados por TASCHEN.
