The Moscow Metro was staged by Stalin as a heroic national event. Pompous palaces were built by hundreds of thousands of workers for the biggest metro of the world. The aim was to make a statement about the efficiency of the USSR to the West. At the same time, the architecture was supposed to serve as a symbol of power and strength for the citizens.
This unique photo documentation of the Moscow Metro by Ralph Richter, one of the world's most renowned architectural photographers, was created in 1989 with personal permission from Mikhail Gorbachev. With immensely long exposure times the photographer was able to capture the buildings in fascinating brilliance in their actual state at the time.
The photographer presents an exclusive edition, strictly limited to 499 copies, which are numbered and signed.
