IT TAKES ALL SORTS TO MAKE A WORLD. Tired of his spring cleaning, Moly, the polite and altruistic mole, steps out of his secluded home under the ground and reaches the river. He befriends Ratty, who takes him on his first boat ride. Believe me, my young friend, there is nothingabsolute nothinghalf so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Fun and adventure begins as the two friends visit the jovial and boastful Mr. Toad, the owner of the Toad Hall, and the kindly Mr. Badger of the Wild Wood. From Mr. Toads motor car crashes and imprisonment to the quartets battle with the weasels and stoats, join them as they move from one escapade to the other. One of the best-loved tales in childrens literature, The Wind in the Willows has been entertaining readers of all ages for more than a century now. It continues to remain as celebrated as ever.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 8, 1859, Kenneth Grahame grew up along with his siblings at his grandmothers place in Cookham village, Berkshire. He attended St. Edwards School, Oxford, but could not continue his education at a University due to financial restrains. In 1879, he took up a career at the Bank of England on his guardians guidance. Grahame wrote and contributed stories and articles to London journals such as the National Observer, The Yellow Book, and the St. James Gazette. He also published collections of stories, sketches, and essays. Pagan Papers (1893), The Golden Age (1895), a collection reminiscing childhood, and its sequel, Dream Days (1898) were all well-received by the literary critics of the day. His best-loved work, The Wind and the Willows, was published in 1908. Grahame breathed his last on July 6, 1932, in Pangbourne, Berkshire.
